Default Seafury Etiquette

SEAFURYS PIRATE ETIQUETTE
Credit to StacySeaMonkey, Redrum & Irate Pirate for the writing of this etiquette.

*Your officers have worked together to come up with some general guild guidelines we'd like to see as you play the game. These are brought up so that everyone in the guild can enjoy the game together.*

General Comments
  • Please keep in mind that you will not hear responses from people at times. This is because they are either in battle, away from their keyboards (sometimes just leaving a character there as a placeholder), type is being filtered, or people can’t type as fast.
  • Game chat is not an appropriate place for rants, complaints and negative comments and should be kept out of chats in game. If you need to express complaints, you can write it in our rants section on the website.
  • Please do not request to become an officer. True leaders are recognized on their own merits, and not given rank because they requested it or used self promotion.

Officers
  • Remember that our Guild Master and Officers are also trying to enjoy the game and in order to do so, as much as we may like to help, we cannot constantly drop everything we are doing to come to your aid every time you receive a new task. "I am clearly not the warm and fuzzy Officer of this guild; however, I will come to your aid when I can as should every other SeaFury with the ability to assist" - Lock.
  • First and foremost Officers are players too, just like you! We pay the same fees, have to complete the same quests and wrestle with all of the same frustrations as any other POTC player. In addition we are here to promote the SeaFury guild, to expand the SeaFury empire by ordaining new pirates into the guild and to help guild mates as much as possible. When called upon, as situations arise, we are here to regulate disputes.
Lock says - “Regulate” came to me from a pirate I truly respect and I believe it's fitting, so thank you for this sage advice!
  • That being the case, I cannot help you if you won’t help yourself:
  • Read the quests thoroughly
  • Reference the guides, tips and tricks on the website which everyone has worked so hard to provide for you.
  • Band together with other pirates of similar notoriety who are on the same or a similar quest
  • Try and try again! Fail before you ask for help.
  • Thanks REDRUM aka Lock for your words on this matter. Also a thank you to Irate for the "reader's digest" version.

Becoming an Officer

Becoming an officer is a privilege; it is not a right and certainly not something that we ask for…

The rank of officer has been bestowed on those that have shown knowledge and skill in-game as well as the willingness to help others. This rank is earned not given as a gift, and can only be granted by our guild leader.

Becoming an officer has little to do with how long you have spent in the guild, but has more to do with the strength of the guild as a whole, and what you do to make the guild stronger by helping others.

(A sure fire way not to be considered as an officer is to ask to become one; let your deeds speak for you.)

Guild Chat, Local Chat, Crew Chat and Whispers
  • For general announcements to all Guild members use Guild Chat.
  • For a small group of people having a conversation or chatting during battle use crew chat feature.
  • Local chat can be used when speaking to people near you, everyone in the area can read it.
  • To tell one person something use the whisper feature.
  • Sometimes whisper doesn’t work and goes out to the world by mistake. Just say, oops or wrong chat.
  • Please remember that some pirates have filtered chat and if they don't respond to you it may be because they don't get your chat on thier screen.

Ship
  • To acquire a crew, ask in guild chat if anyone wants to join you.
  • To join a ship already at sea, whisper to the captain asking if you may board his/her ship.
  • Once on board, do not shoot unless you have asked or been told the target.
  • If you need something specific to complete your quest, whisper to the captain, politely asking if they can go after what you need.
  • If your friend wants to join you or teleports to you on another persons ship, please ask the person who's boat it is if they can stay and cannon with you. Remind your friend that it is not your ship and you are already working in a crew.

Crews
  • Make sure that everyone fighting/sailing together is crewed so you may use Crew Chat feature to discuss maneuvers.
  • Another reason to crew your mates is to gain the extra points for Notoriety, 10% is worth it.
  • Be sure that you clearly state expectations and follow the crew leader.
  • Be sure that your actions are helping and not hindering the goal of the group.

Ventrilo – Voice Chat
  • We appreciate Monkey's hospitality for setting up and allowing us to use this great feature as a benefit of being in the SeaFurys Guild.
  • Please keep non game conversations in the OFF TOPIC room.
  • Please use this benefit with respect for the others.
  • Also remember that with the game live and the Ventrilo open to all Guild members you may not know the age of the person you are talking to, so keep things Disney rated.
  • We now have a room set up for Boss Battle Crews so that they can discuss manuevers with out talking over the other discussions.

Following or TP’ing
  • It is always polite to whisper to your friend first to ask where they are and if you can join them, before Teleporting or following them.
  • They may be in the middle of battle or working on something they want to do alone.
  • They may be on the ship of another pirate and it would be rude of you to show up unannounced.

Asking for Help
  • All SeaFurys need help at some point in the game and we should all strive to provide help to our guild mates whenever we can! When you need help politely ask your guild mates for it, but first try to complete the task without assistance! Make sure you read the quest completely and if you still don’t understand what to do you will find a wealth of information on this site which will allow you to identify enemies, where they are located, what is involved in completing each quest, etc. Use the tools provided to you before you ask for help!
  • Also, answering the call for help is not limited to the Officers or higher level notoriety players only. Band together with players of a similar notoriety level, with similar quests and you will find that it is a much more rewarding gaming experience than having a level thirty plus (30+) player walk you through every quest without any challenge. We understand it get’s frustrating and yes you will spend a lot of time in jail, but that’s all part of the game. This is the process wherein you will obtain the knowledge and learn the skills required to defeat your enemies and master your weapons!
  • Before asking for help make sure that you have bought tonic.
  • Try at least twice to defeat the enemy or accomplish the task on your own.
  • When asking for help in Guild Chat make sure that you type in what quest you are working on, what island and what world you are in and what your target/task is.
  • If some one is available they will come to you. There may not always be some one available.
  • Ask for help, do not demand it. You can ask for a healer to help you defeat a higher level enemy, but do not shout “HEAL ME NOW”
  • For large quests that require a bigger crew, please try to plan your time in advance and get a few people who are willing to help you. Example, Grenade Quest at Kingshead with the searching of the Barrels and Crates. When you know you will be level 20 soon, you can post here on the website asking for help and list the day you want to do your quest. This particular quest takes 4-6 people and at least 45 minutes to complete.

Say Thank You
  • If you receive help, take the time to say Thank You.

Pay It Forward
  • If you receive help, give help to some one else. This is the nature of the SeaFurys.

so this is a random question but i think i should ask before i step over someones toes,
Are we as guild members allowed to refer other guild members to the etiquette page? For example, this past week i have had several members of seafurys tp to me without asking. for me its not really a problem but just seems rude. i always enjoy playing with other pirates but would like the common curtosey extended to all. I think the biggest thing about this that bugs me is the few times it has happen it is members of the guild i have never spoke with. hope im not going over board or anything i just think it need to be brought to the attention of officers, but there are days when there are no officers online when im on in the wee hours of the morning. so, if we are allowed to direct people to read the post again it might put all on the same page.

Absolutely Bart. New guild members are required to read this post. However some that were guilded months ago may have never even visited our site.

You may refer them to the site and the etiquette post but please be careful, Disney may ban you if you give out the site address. You can not list it as SeaFurys.net but you can say SeaFurys dot com or some version of that, usually in more than one line of chat.

TP with out asking is a pet peeve of many. I would recommend you talk to them about that when they arrive. Let them know that you don't want them coming to you with out asking. If they don't seem to listen and do it again, then you can PM an officer through this site and we'll start to monitor that person.

I'd suggest you talk with them first. Reading the Etiquette page is a great idea. If you ask them if they've been to our site and read the etiquette page and their answer is no then it is wise to ask them to do so. Most of the time peeps are very good about teleporting. You might say something like it is polite to ask to teleport before doing so.

The "ingore" button works great! I know as I put myself on ignore to see if it worked. They cannot teleport or whisper to you.

If you use a search engine and put in Seafurys most of the time we come up first regardless of which one you use.
